Hot Chelle Rae began in 2005, with R.K. and Nash. Introduced by friend and producer Gary Burnette, they began playing and writing songs together. After several changes to the lineup, Ian (who had been childhood friends with Nash) came to a show and decided "I can play bass". The fit was all too natural. The three began working on songs, and newer dancier sound. Jamie, R.K.'s younger brother joined the band immediately after graduating high school, and the band was complete. The band gets it's name from the first "dedicated" (crazy) fan, Chelle Rae. A myspace stalker/faker who provided the band with quite an entertaining era of online activity until her false identity was discovered and brought to light. They decided to name the band after the fan they would never forget. In the summer of 2007, the band opened a sold out concert for rapper Lil Jon. Later on they played a string of venues at the prestigious South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, and then went on tour with the band Vedera.
They were signed to Jive Records in October 2008, and then began work on their first album. In January 2009, Hot Chelle Rae recorded Lovesick Electric and then went on tour with Third Eye Blind. After they ended their run with them, the band went on a small 7 show run opening for The Academy Is.... HCR toured with Sherwood from February 26 to August 2 of 2010, and on April 17, 2010, they opened for Owl City's Grand Prairie concert in Texas. On April 22, 2010, they opened for Cobra Starship at George Mason University. On April 23, 2010, they opened for Cobra Starship and Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. In addition to playing Vans Warped Tour this summer of 2010, the band is heading to Australia on July 4 for a two week tour with Boys Like Girls, and playing a string of shows at Six Flags theme parks across the country throughout August.
